The Black Magician Trilogy, Book 1

Let me be completely honest - this trilogy was everything I never knew I needed. I read it in high school - the physical editions, not the e-book - and I was immediately in love. There was so much about this trilogy that made it literally glued to my hands. I couldn't put any of the books down for the longest time. I was rereading bits and pieces that were the best parts to me. I was drawing fan art (even though I suck at drawing). I was living for every, single word Canavan provided for me to read. Canavan also discusses difficult social issues, despite the books being set in a fictional world. These issues hit close to home for any and everyone, but are discussed in such tasteful, meaningful ways that you enjoy it. She has also written a sequel trilogy to this series, and I read the entire thing in one summer (having to wait my turn for the rest of the books to show up at the local library, because I lived overseas at the time). I HIGHLY recommend picking up one of her books (in the correct order, of course). You will truly enjoy it, especially if you are a fan of fantasy and magic.
