This is a review from a teen reader submitted through our Advance Reading club program: The southern country atmosphere of this novel transported me to another world. The novel revolved around the misfortune and future dangers of pregnant teen, Sadie Blue. By switching between the characters voices in each chapter, their different personalities and perspectives toward Sadie Blue's situation and their own, were perfectly framed. Each character had a different voice that was so human and real that made the careful yet abrupt transition between a voice of hope and despair. The character Kate Shaw - a strange teacher - brought a new light to many lives including Sadie Blue, which gave the hope of a better future for her. In other eyes they viewed her as a threat to their religion, a common and important belief, in their community. The character of Kate Shaw helped to display the diverse opinions and human emotions that can be found in every person today. Leah Weiss' writing is extremely good. This was one of the best books that I've read, with a theme not so common in teen's books nowadays. Throughout the book, a myriad of emotions were shown, which made me feel so much for the characters.
