Add a CommentBox presents another fine mystery. Pickett is faced with some troubling temptations.
C.J. Box delivers again in this the fifth installment in the Joe Pickett series. The characters continue to develop in compelling and believable ways - dealing with life together and, in this story, a different kind of job-related separation as Joe is detailed to Jackson Hole for a difficult assignment while his family is dealing with their own challenges at home. As always, Box weaves in a real life theme where the culture of the West is in tension with ideas that intersect Joe's life as a Game Warden. In this case, the topic involves animal rights activists who regard meat eaters as criminal and land developers who seek to establish a community where animals are raised and slaughtered for residents as part of something called 'good meat' movement. A great read and more reason to read the whole series from the beginning.
Fifth in the Joe Pickett, Wyoming game warden, series. Joe's close friend, a fellow game warden unexpectedly kills himself, and Joe temporarily replaces him. Meanwhile his absence from family and home cause incredible tension for his wife, Marybeth and tween daughter Sheridan. And a lethal plot is afoot for reclusive friend, Nate. A very worthy series.

Kind of a cliff hanger but worth the read.
This series often refers to incidents in previous books so can contain spoilers. It's best to read them in order and they are worth it.
This is one of the series about game warden Pickett. It is very good.
